BT Broadband Issues
29. Oct 2016 at 21:53

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to check .... we've had issues with our broadband for almost two years. We live in Burge Meadow and have had issues with our BT broadband dropping out - particularly when it's been raining heavy. BT generally take 4-5 days to ever look into the problem - even though each time we report the issue and they do a line check and they confirm that our connectivity is diabolical.

Having spoken to an Openreach engineer previously, he was convinced that the village has poor quality junction boxes in the roads which have leaking seals on the lids - the belief is that they suffer from water ingress when it rains - then recover as they eventually dry out again.

Unfortunately whenever they eventually send someone, the intermittent fault has cleared due to it having stopped raining and dried out.

We just wondered if anyone else was suffering similar problems ?

Sometimes it drops out causing the router to go offline for short periods . Today it's been down for 12 hours.

Cheers,

Jay

We are always losing our connection with BT. It happens 3 or 4 times a day. I went on to my IP address that is on the router and reset it and it does seem to better for the moment. The Same happens with us that when they check the line it's back again.

I am with PlusNet and had this problem, after a friendly phone call and a few tests we ascertained that the wifi was not selecting the best channel automatically on the router. Therefore we went through each channel manually (approx. 12 I think) and found the best one and have had no problems since. You will need to speak to your provider to ascertain the codes to do this.

There's many a free wi-fi analyser app available for your phone, which will show a graphic of what routers in range are using which channel - just pick a free one and go into your router settings menu via your web browser (the router manual will explain how) and set it to that channel.

The same app will also show you signal strength so you can use it to position the router for best coverage throughout the house.

Hi just seen your post I have been with Orange and now EE for about 15 years now we are in Burge Crescent and never had any problems. Its a bit slow but usable we also have a mobile phone booster from EE and that works great. Maybe you sit a bit lower in Burge Meadow and have a problem with water accumulation underground. My parents live in oxfordshire at the top of their road and they have had problems for years.

We just moved from burge meadow to baileys gate.

We were having occasional problems of the internet just dropping out. But it hasnt happened once here yet.

Also our MBPS download speed has gone from around 20 to over 40! As we are only accross the road from the junction box.

So there is certainly a big geographical factor!!
