Hi allI am Rachel, one of those heading up the new Chapel. While a personal 'purchase' we will indeed by supported by The Lifestyle Group and we are incorporating the Tiger Bills Kitchen. It's a fabulous offering, and we feel the perfect menu to complement the beautiful building as well as Cotford's demographic. We hope to maximise the potential of this lovely local pub, which we hope to have thriving into the new year and beyond. We were hoping to move in before Christmas, but while negotiations continue, it is looking more like the end of Sam's lease in January.

I am looking forward to the opening very much!  Smiley

Hiya, Rachel,

That's lovely that you came to here to say 'Hello' to us and to keep us updated with what's happening with The Chapel---

Wishing you all the best with your new venture (---and with a degree of selfishness as we didn't want to lose our 'local'!  Wink )

Looking forward to meeting you in the New Year ----  Smiley

@racheal

Just hope there a big enough area for just a drink, that 1st idiot wanted it for his foodies mates and it died on its arse.

I'm  sure there are plenty of people in the village that just want to go over for a quiet or not so quiet drinks and socialise with the family. Without feeling obliged just to eat and go.
Cotford has its share of young families

Get the blend right and it will succeed

Best of Lucky  Cheesy

Hi Gary
Totally understand where you're coming from, and all of the feedback we've had from everyone in Cotford. Our focus will be neither on the pub, nor on the food side, just on creating a warm and friendly venue that delivers what everyone wants. Starting with a huge investment in coffee - I love decent coffee! We have experience in both busy bars AND budget friendly, neighbourhood dining. We will be re-shaping the downstairs to make it more attractive for daytime and evening drinks, while upstairs there will be a focus on fantastic food.
I hope this helps Smiley
We'd really appreciate your support and welcome your suggestions!
Rachel

Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments, suggestions and feedback, here and on twitter! We can't wait to create a lovely community pub and bring a beautiful cup of coffee to Cotford! (Coffee is my particular obsession!)

And I love decent beer, particularly real ale.  What real ale will you be serving? There are dozens of local (and farther afield - Bristol) breweries who brew some excellent stuff.  It would be good to see some of those.

Hi Jimmy

Not sure yet - we haven't even got a date for moving in, but rest assured we'll call on everyone we know to make sure we get it right. We have a few other pubs who do a great selection of real ales, so will bow to their better knowledge.

Thanks Gary! We might be business people but we still care. A lot! This is a personal investment for us, but hopefully it will work out well for everyone. We popped in at lunch time today and heard some more about what people want. It's all good. I can't wait to open that door for the first time as landlady! (But keep the doors of the woodburner closed Wink)

Rachel,

In the drinkers area you need a couple of popular lagers on tap to keep the quaffers of gassy chemical p**s happy then think locally - this is cider country - and keep Stowford and talk to Sheppeys to see what they do, and similar. On the real ale front, you need to keep it fresh and begging-you-to-come-back so dedicate a pump to a staple popular regular that's always available and at least one pump to a guest ale that stays no more than a month, unless it's popular, when it switches to the reserve guest. My old local used to have one pump that changed to something new every month. When it was done he'd move the tap plate to the "gallery" on the wall. The wall was covered in tap plates. In other words, he always had something fresh for people to try. Lesson in that...

You ain't gonna keep or draw a local trade if you rely on food only. You need to be a drink/chat/chill out with your mates at the bar venue to draw people around here. We're between two main roads but sufficiently off them and hidden by countryside to not pick up passing trade. People from outside will need a reason to come here - which is where your food rep' comes in - but the locals will still want a pub that ticks all their boxes rather than the managements (which is where your predecessor's went wrong). So pay heed...

If you build it they will come.

Love and cuddles,

He who they seek but never find.

Wink

There are people I work with who would travel from Taunton/Bridgwater to eat in Tiger Bills who wouldn't travel to Cotford to visit the Chapel as it is now. It has failed as a local pub environment twice so going down the same road again might be be the correct way to go.

Thanks itsmeagain - that's what we hope to achieve. Let's get the Chapel buzzing again! I can promise that the Tiger Bills kitchen offers the best food - I can honestly say that the brand is a delight to work with! And our Thai chef will move in with us - he's very very good!

Tempus - all taken on board, thank you! We are very experienced so we will give it everything we can. Trying to be all things to everyone is difficult, but The Chapel will be given every chance to work, you have my complete assurance on that.
