Can you keep a secret----?

Well----(ssshhhh!) ----- last evening I was privy to seeing some of the prettily planted Winter Flowering pots and baskets which will be on sale at Saturday's Fete between 2 - 4pm at the School Hall----

They're gorgeous ------

Trouble is, there aren't enough to grace the nine-hundred-and-something patios in this village so get there early and bag one for yourself-----  Wink

Thank you so much to everyone who came along and put the happy atmosphere into the School Hall this afternoon and for your support in helping us to raise funds for Dene Barton Hospital. A big thank you, also, to all our sponsors for the donations of prizes and goods to sell ---  Smiley

Thanks to everyone who supported our Fete last Saturday, we raised 788.78 ----! Smiley

Our next project is to provide a 'living screen' of trellised fencing interwoven with flowering plants near the pond for the patients and their visitors who like to sit outside in this area.

A Big Thank You to you all for helping us to turn proposed plans into reality---- Smiley

Does the donated flat screen TV need to come with a wall mount or with its stand?

Hello Knockman
We have use of either type. In general we prefer a stand as then it can be used in Bedrooms where there is not an existing wall mount. If you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to telephone me on 432680.
I hope this helps.

Right then ---- someone said to me this afternoon "You could write a poem about this, Marilyn!" so I started one in my usual tongue-in-cheek way and then I thought "How can I trivialise such an epic day---?"

Twelve Friends of Dene Barton Community Hospital met in the gardens there this morning to replant recently cleared beds in a delightful sitting-out area for patients----

Under the guidance of horticulturalists, Jill and Martin, (who volunteered to us their service and advice) we prepared new pots, beds and borders and then filled them with carefully selected plants according to a plan our mentors had devised following their consideration of the garden's aspects----and thanks to the funds available to us which are partly due to the generosity of readers of this Forum----

The existing beds and borders had been planted out possibly when the Dene Barton Hospital was built in the 1980s and the shrubs we cleared were looking somewhat gnarled and sad in their overgrown state---

All day the Friends toiled through a mixture of sunshine and showers, cheerfulness and concerns and the result is a show which turned out to be a feast to the eyes ---- As they establish themselves and flourish, they will be a feast to all the senses with their different textures, fragrance and colour---

Photos were taken which will appear in our next Newsletter and that is Phase One of our project completed ---

Phase Two will incorporate the focal feature of the Fishpond in that same 'garden room' ---

For me, the highlight of the day was seeing patients being wheeled to the patio doors of the dayrooms by their Nurses that they may sit happily watching us in our task ---

It has been our aim to create a 'Happiness Garden' --- For ourselves, that happened today--- hopefully it will long serve the patients in that respect---

Thank you so much to everyone who supported Dene Barton (Taunton's Community Hospital) this morning. To those who made scrumptious-looking cakes, cheese scones and sausage rolls; to everyone who donated such lovely prizes for the Raffle table and books for the Book Stall; to the duo from the Milverton Silver Street Band who entertained us with folk songs and to those who came along to enjoy the morning with us --- the ways in which you help us is very much appreciated---   Smiley

Please pop this date on your calendar and come along if you can --- The Friends of Dene Barton Community Hospital look forward to welcoming you to this Autumn's Fete.

Thanks to your support we have provided TV sets and DAB Radios for patients' rooms at the hospital, had a Quiet Room constructed and recently enhanced the garden around the pool that patients could enjoy sitting outside through this Summer. None of this would have been possible without your help---- Thank you!
