The Somerset County Gazette have made mention of this event on page 20 of this week's issue but ----- it reads as though the Coffee Morning is to be held at the Dene Barton Hospital------

In fact, we shall be waiting to welcome you at Cotford St Luke's Community Centre (right next to the school hall) ---- just follow the directional signs in the village---

See you there---† Smiley

Ditto Marilyn.

My parents said they thoroughly enjoyed the event and thought everyone was friendly and welcoming and the event was well organised and they really liked the choir. I think they will become season ticket holders to the Friends events in future and it is all in such a good cause.

In fact they only made a move when I said we were about to start clearing up and volunteers would be welcome....

There are still tickets available for local Sailor, Paul Jackson's illustrated talk following his competing in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race a few months ago (as featured in our April Newsletter which can be found by scrolling this page.)

Tickets are £7.50 each to include a Ploughman's Supper and glass of wine and the event will be held in Bishops Lydeard's Village Hall at 7pm.

Simply phone Geoff May on 01823 432680 or Allan Sutton 01823 432157 to order your ticket or pop into the Bird In Hand pub in Bishops Lydeard where they are also on sale.

That was an exhilarating evening!  Smiley

With thanks to Paul and Judith Jackson for their superbly illustrated rendition of their part in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race----

There was a poignant moment at the start as the assembled company's thoughts were with the yachtsmen who are missing at the moment and the silently shared hope that all will be well----

The Friends of Dene Barton's projectionist then proceeded to the slide show and we were able to view (on a large screen) the initial trip taking the boat from Hobart to Sydney, 'meeting' the sixteen-strong crew, hearing about the somewhat treacherous conditions in the Bass Strait which separates Tasmania from the Australian coast; then we were able to imagine the sounds at the start of the race in Sydney Harbour from the description given in Paul's talk and by watching the dozens of craft jostling for prime positions----

We were given an insight of the accomodation below deck with the arrangement of bunks for alternating members of the crew to rest in whilst they weren't on watch; the tiny galley kitchen----

Nautical terms such as 'spinnakers' and 'tacking' have had me Googling this morning-----

The adventure was graphically presented and had us in awe of the levels of endurance required for such a feat---

---and then there was supper! A delicious feast of a buffet---and plenty of wine!

Thank you to everyone for such a lovely evening---  Smiley
