Actually Henry, if the village were to go back to your original idea of 30 mph, it would cost nothing other than the time of a man for a few minutes. This is because you could remove the national speed limit boards after the bridge and at the end of the village. Job done, the limit is now 30 from the bridge to the village and no new signs needed

Unfortunately tags i was told the Highways would be very unlikely to reduce it to thirty.

Presumably that's because no-one from Highways lives here? They're also too busy putting inappropriate speed limits on fast roads and silly ones where they need a restriction to have time to consider it!

Tags' idea makes absolute sense. We drove home that way yesterday and 30mph was quite a comfortable speed along that whole stretch (with a slight decelaration needed for the bend.)

Someone from Highways does live in the village, Tempus. My husband met him when we went around with the Petition (which he signed.)

Maybe he'll put a word in-------------- Smiley

30 was what i wanted to reduce it to but others thought 40 was a more realistic target, that's got to be better than 60 though, at least the idiots who do 60 along there will be slowed down.

Or collect points and a fine!

Next campaign: one of those yellow boxes.

Or perhaps not...  Angry

(Wednesday 10th March)
The Petition regarding the speed limit on Dene Road will be presented at this evening's Parish Council meeting in Bishops Lydeard's Village Hall at 7p.m.

We are welcome to be present at that meeting.

The petition was fully discussed by the Parish Council last night at their Meeting at Bishops Lydeard. The council were very supportive and raised some interesting points. The petition will now be officially passed on to the County Council with a recommendation of support from the Parish Council.

Just a little update: I was speaking to Henry last week and he said that he has noticed someone monitoring the traffic flow along Dene Road on - Sunday evenings.......... Huh

We should make a point of driving out to the A358, going around the roundabout and coming back as quickly as possible on Sunday evenings, then!

Or 'phone the council to say how daft it is and why don't they do what they do on every other occasion they want to monitor traffic patterns and put in one of those grey instrument boxes with the two parallel rubber strips across the road for a month or two.

Do those instrument boxes measure speed, Anvil? I thought they just counted vehicles, but I may be wrong.

I agree - they should do a proper survey with the automatic kit. As the tubes are in pairs and a set distance apart I imagine they can record speed, too. The manufacturers blurb seems to suggest as much:-

"Both speed and vehicle class can be classified into 14 bin reports. Larger memory capacity means that up to 6 months of data can be collected before downloading is necessary."

I agree with you, Anvil and also with Tempus' comment.

If a phone call to the council would be appropriate, would either of you like to do that?  I would phone them myself but I wouldn't really know what to say---------------(unless one of you wrote me a script--------!  Wink )
